Lemon Oil Acne Treatment

By · Nov 1, 2019 · 3 min read

Lemon Oil is packed with vitamin C, one of the most beneficial vitamins for skin. (Lemons actually contains twice the amount of vitamin C as oranges.) The oil is made not from the fruit itself but by pressing the peels and extracting it from there. It has antiseptic, antifungal, exfoliative, detoxifying and astringent qualities.

Because of these properties, it contributes to

  • killing bacteria
  • detoxifies
  • calms inflamed acne and
  • smooths skin.

The vitamin C in lemon oil also aids the skin in collagen production, which treats acne scars and helps prevent new ones from forming. The antiseptic and exfoliative qualities help clogged pores release infection.

Most people use lemon oil as an acne treatment by adding a few drops to their cleanser or moisturizer. This creates an ideal PH balance.

Lemon oil can also be used by mixing a few drops with the doTERRA HD Clear facial cleanser or by creating a makeshift cleanser by diluting a few drops in coconut oil. If using lemon oil without diluting into another substance, only a drop or two should be applied to affected areas as, like other exfoliating treatments, excess use will cause irritation. Again broad-spectrum SPF should be worn.
